We covered a lot of ground about using pivot tables. Of course, any tool like this relies on your data. Here are a couple ideas about keeping your data up to date.
You can do the exercise with the Pivot Table Refresh workbook.
After you create a pivot table, later you may have more data to add in. Here are three steps you need to do to update the pivot table:
Put in the new data or update your current data
Update the data range for your data
Refresh the pivot table
In the exercise, we created some more data to add to the end of the data range.

Step one is to copy the data in to the end of the data range.

Step two is to update the data range. From the Insert menu, select Name, then Define.

Step three is to go to the pivot table. At this point, the worksheet has not changed.

Right click on a cell in the pivot table and then select Refresh Data. Or select the Refresh Data icon from the Pivot Table toolbar.

Now you see the updated data.

So when you have a pivot table and the results don't look updated to you, make sure you have refreshed the pivot table and reset your data range.
