Changing Chart Data

Changing data on your chart can be easier than you think.

1. Put in new data in the chart data or other tab (we just put in dummy data for the example)

2. Then go to the applicable chart and right click in the body of the chart to pull up a menu

3. Then select Source Data, which brings up the menu below

4. If it is a simple chart (Excel will let you know if it cannot display the data range in the box above when the chart is too complex- in that case click on the Series tab up above)- change the data range to add in the new data. In this case we will increase it by one row.

5. Then click OK and you see the chart updated for the new data.

6. The other way to update the chart follows the same steps, but clicking on the Series tab above in Source Data dialog box which will show this:

7. Here you can either add a new data series, remove a data series or modify a data series. To modify a data series, you would click on the data series (as we have done for 2000) and have three things to modify:

• Name: this is the spot (such as a column or row heading) for the name of the series that would appear in the legend section of the chart

• Values: this is the range of the data that will be added to the chart (the column or row of data- without the header (which you put in the name section above)).

• Axis labels. These are defined for the chart as a whole, not an individual data series. Depending upon the data series that you added, you may or may not need to modify this. We did not in this example since the column headings remained the same.
