AutoCorrect

Here is a handy tool that you could use to speed up typing on long words that you might often use.

It also can be useful for quality control.  It you know you often misspell a certain word, you can set it up to get automatically corrected.

It also can be a way to automatically put in symbols.

It is called AutoCorrect.  You can access it from the Tools menu.  Here is the dialog box you will see.

In the center section, underneath the horizontal line, you see four general ways that AutoCorrect can automatically fix your typing.  We suggest leaving these checked.

Click on the Exceptions button, and you will see exceptions to their general rules.  You can add to them, so it doesn't automatically correct something you don't want corrected.

Back to the top image.  In the bottom section, you can add in your own special corrections.  If there is a word you often misspell, set up the automatic fix.  No more will someone see Bagders when you meant Badgers.

You can also use this to save time.  You may be typing Chief Financial Officer often during your search.  Instead of having to type the whole word, set up an Autocorrect entry.  Set up zzz to automatically become Chief Financial Officer.  If on the job, sent up AutoCorrect to speed up keying in your company name.

Even if you don't intend to, you might have to modify AutoCorrect anyway.  Suppose you got a job with CNA Insurance and wanted to do some work at home.  Try typing in CNA.  See what happens.  It automatically changes it to can.  You will need to go in and delete that correction in AutoCorrect.

Note also that it can be a great tool for getting in symbols.  Type in (c) and it automatically converts to the copyright symbol.

Finally, AutoCorrect could be even more useful for you in Word.
